Volure... Practically the oldest character I have, he's been through so many changes, I wouldn't even know where to start with him. The original Volure was very much based on Papyrus, but wouldn't be the outgoing one. Volure's kleptomania is something that's always been a part of Volure, since day one. Though the reasoning wasn't lways there. Volure was based on the archetype of the Thief RPG class, being one that steals. Later, Volure would evolve into more of an alchemist/scientist, but then the alchemist part was dropped in favor of being more of a machine tinkerer. The reason for that was at the time, Onkals world was extremely against technology, and his arc was to try and convince the world technology can be good in the right hands.
Volure being a mechanic and having electricity themes to him was completely unintentional, and was something I kept for a long time, but I didn't really are for Volures arc and Onkal being against technology, it made things a bit of a hassle. So I eventually decided to remove Onkals fear of technology, and Volure is more medical focused due to the element of Plasma. Volure still has machinery he likes to tinker with, but is more focused on the medical part. Right now, Volure has hit a roadblock.
Volure's design has changed a little bit, which you can see with the sprite evolution of him. It's mostly just fine tuning and adding a couple details to make the catboy stand out. Speaking of which, Volure was made a catboy, mostly because I got angry at all the cute catgirls, and I wanted to make a cute catboy in response. Volure's tail was made more jagged to have a better sillhouette, and his left ear gain a couple tufts for the same reason, but also because I really liked that kind of ear! Speaking of Volures tail, it used to be stretchy, and would allow Volure to crack it like a whip, or to use to swing from places, which didn't help the accusation that according to some, Volure's tail looks like a monkey one. >:(
Volure's backstory has been set in stone for many ages, and is something I'm still keeping somewhat of a secret, but in Onkal, Volure is the only known cat to exist, so the onkalian people justt call Volure's race... Volure. Speaking of names, Volure's first name was a mispelling of the french word of Thief, and then I thought it'd be funny if Volure's first name was a mispelling, and his last name is the actual word. Thus Volure's full name is essentially Theif Thief.
If I was to describe Volure's home, it'd be incredibly whimsical, strange, and have gothic victorian architecture. Imagine Traverse Town from Kingdom Hearts, but amplified a bit more.
Volure had a small time period where they weren't actually a cat, and was actually just wearing a cat headband that camo'd extremely well into their hair, and in EXTREMELY old onkal plots, originally wasn't a catboy, but later became a catboy when being isekai'd into the Onkal world. A very weird phase for the character, but an interesting one nonetheless. Oh, final thing I'll mention. As usual, I didn't have a type of cat in mind when designing Volure, but I later decided that if Volure was a real world cat, Volure'd be a Havana Brown cat!
